DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The Village of Wauconda is located northwest of Chicago in southwestern Lake County, Illinois. Wauconda was once known primarily as a summer resort community for its beaches on Bangs Lake. It is now beginning to experience some of the growth associated with the Chicagoland area, though still retaining much of its small-town character. The Village is accessible by three major routes: US Highway 12 (Rand Road), IL Route 59 (Barrington Road), and IL Route 176 (Liberty Street). The Wisconsin border is 25 minutes to the north, and many people use Highway 12 as their path to Lake Geneva from the Chicago area.

The Police Department provides police services to the Wauconda community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are staffed by a Chief, Deputy Chief, six  Sergeants, and 15 full-time sworn officers, supported by a records clerk and an executive secretary. The Department telecommunications center is staffed by well-trained dispatch personnel. The Department Marine Unit is responsible for patrolling Bangs Lake, and is activated during the boating season. The Marine Unit is staffed by part-time personnel.
