  • During the boating season, the Wauconda Police Department patrols Bangs Lake. The Marine Unit, which is staffed by part-time, sworn officers, helps to make sure that Bangs Lake is safe for everyone's use. Marine officers enforce all Village of Wauconda's boating and fishing ordinances, in addition to federal, state, and county regulations, and are strictly enforced. Marine Patrol Officers, with full powers of enforcement and arrest, enforce all laws regulating boat safety (including safety inspections), conservation, and also maintain the regulatory buoys.

Bangs Lake is a 309-acre natural, glacial lake that is carefully managed to allow a balance between fishing and boating. Numerous wetlands and ponds exist in the 2,762 acre watershed, with abundant forest areas that combine to endure high water quality
