The Wauconda Police Department’s motorcycle unit has been in operation since the year 2000. Motor officers currently ride a Harley Davison Road King which is leased through Woodstock Harley-Davidson. At the end of the year the department returns the used motorcycle and receives a new one for another year. The motor patrol has been utilized for participation in special events throughout the year. These events include appearances at Wauconda Fest, Street Dances, Fire Works, fundraisers, parades, seasonal community functions and career fairs at Wauconda High School. The primary mission of the motor patrol is for concentrated traffic enforcement in problem areas. Another key feature of the motor patrol program is the enhanced accessability Wauconda residents enjoy with the motor officer who patrols their neighborhood. The unique flexibility of the police motorcycle allows this to occur by placing officers in closer contact with the public. The communication barrier the conventional patrol vehicle has is greatly reduced with a motorcycle. Officers and citizens have a better opportunity for open communication. Motor Patrol officers have a realistic chance to discuss and understand matters of mutual concern. |
