Support Services Division

Investigations Unit

Responsible for conducting investigations that may require substantial traveling beyond the Village’s jurisdiction, the Investigations Unit has specialized skills and training to handle lengthy and in-depth cases that they develop or that are handed over to them by the Patrol Unit.

The Investigations Unit is commanded by one Sergeant and is staffed with two detectives and a school resource officer (assigned to Wauconda High School), all of whom are certified juvenile officers. In the future, the Unit will be assisted by a Special Operations Team staffed by two police officers who track criminal gang activity.

Strategic Support Unit

This Unit consists of two distinct services:

Communications Section - As the central point of contact for both the public and public safety providers (police and fire) this group of highly trained and skilled people are able to relay the needs of the public to the police officer or firefighter / paramedic.  The Communications Section is a state-of-the-art 911 certified emergency access point and is part of the Strategic Support Unit of the Police Department.  Citizens in need of police services contact the Communications Center officers who then then code and relay the information to the patrol officers or fire personnel.

Records Section - Also part of the Strategic Support Unit, it is the repository for all documented calls for service, the Records Section processes and archives all reports of criminal, non-criminal, traffic and parking activity handled by the Department. Part of the Operations Support Unit, these dedicated individuals ensure that the flow of paperwork is properly handled and smoothly delivered.
