Ice Fishing Regulations for Bangs Lake

Please Note: YOU MUST OBTAIN A PERMIT FOR ANY ICE SHELTER THAT IS LEFT IN PLACE AFTER YOUR LEAVE THE LAKE (CONSIDERED AS PERMANENT). PERMITS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

THE $25.00 IS FEE USED ENTIRELY TO STOCK AND MAINTAIN THE LAKE.

A sport fishing license is required for ice fishing. The ice angler may use a maximum of three poles or tip-ups with no more than two hooks on each line.

92.001 REGISTRATION OF SHELTER.

No person shall use a portable fishing shelter in fishing through the frozen surface water of Bangs Lake unless the fishing shelter, as hereinafter defined, is registered and posted as set forth hereinafter. (please register at the Police Department).

92.002 DEFINITION.

A PORTABLE FISHING SHELTER, commonly referred to as a FISHING SHANTY shall be construed to include any shelter constructed of a framework of metal or wood covered with canvas, paper, plastic material or any similar fabric which is used or placed upon the ice or frozen waters of the village for the purpose of being used while ice fishing.

92.003 REGISTRATION AND NUMBER OF OWNER.

All persons intending to use portable fishing shelters shall register their name and address with the Police Department; they shall be assigned a permit for a fee of $25.00 from the applicant.

92.004 POSTING NUMBER ON SHELTER.

The number so assigned by the Police Department shall be posted with a marking of white, yellow or orange in color, which marking shall be at least 12 inches in height or of any color which shall provide a contrast with the surface of the fishing shelter so that it can be seen from a distance of 500 feet. In addition to the number, the owner shall attach to the shelter his name and address as required by state fishing laws. No shelter shall be used without being so marked or identified.

92.005 REMOVAL OF SHELTER.

Following March 1 of each fishing season, the shelter must be removed at the end of each fishing day and shall not be left unattended at any time after such date

The Wauconda Police Department provides public safety services to the Wauconda community 24 hours a day. The Chief of Police has a professional team of 2 Commanders, 6 Patrol Sergeants, 1 Detective Sergeant and 16 well trained, fully equipped, full time police officers. There are no part-time police officers.

The Department operates its own jail and Communications Center and handles emergency calls for both the Fire and Police. It has a fleet of 10 modern and well equipped marked police cars.
